Archie Snufflekins Cat

Everyone loves a chancer, and Archie Snufflekins (the shortened name I have chosen for the purpose of this post) is just one of those cats. This kitty influenced tale comes from new picture book talent, Katie Harnett, and what a debut it is!
Archie Snufflekins is the cat who lives on Blossom Street. But why the long, long name? Well Archie is called something different by everyone, and loved by all - and his tummy is maybe too loved with all the food he gets. But there is one house on the street that he hasn’t visited yet…
Being a rather confident and adventurous Cat, Archie visits the house on Blossom Street that no one goes to. It's only then that the other residents of the street notice Archie has gone missing and go searching Blossom Street for him. Eventually they go a-knocking at Number 11, and discover Archie is keeping the loneliest resident of Blossom Street company. Number 11 will never be lonely again.
This is a sweet and memorable tale about communities, friendship, and the importance of not forgetting those around us - which in this day and age needs to be addressed. On all streets there are elderly people who live alone and having a cat bring people together makes for a heart warming story.
Katie's illustrations echo classic's like Mog and The Tiger Who Came to Tea, giving the book a beautiful retro feel - especially the gorgeous use of pencil and water based paint. The characters in the book are also a stroke of genius, I particularly loved Madame Betty at house Number 13, an eccentric middle aged woman who was possibly a model or actress in her younger years - a member of most communities in some shape or form!
Archie Snufflekins Cat has all the markings of a classic, with a sentimental story at its heart and beautiful illustrations to match. It's a story you'll come back to again and again - especially the cat lovers out there. Archie Snufflekins Cat is available to buy from all good bookshops and from the Flying Eye Books website.
